Rafah Border Crossing: A Lifeline for Gaza Under Israeli Bombardment
Southernmost Exit from Gaza
The Rafah Border Crossing, also known as the Mabar Rafaḥ or Rafah Crossing Point, is the only crossing point between Egypt and Palestine's Gaza Strip. Located in the southernmost part of Gaza, it borders Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.
Last Hope for Gazans Amidst Bombings
As Israeli bombs continue to rain down on Gaza, the Rafah crossing has emerged as the last hope for Gazans seeking escape. On Tuesday morning, Israel's 401st Brigade entered the crossing following the announcement by the Palestinian group Hamas that it had accepted an Egyptian ceasefire proposal.
Controlled by Egypt
Unlike other Gaza border crossings, the Rafah crossing is controlled by Egypt. Israel has closed its crossings with Palestine, leaving the Rafah crossing as the only way out for Gazans.
